The Latino Public Relations Team
Liliana Ospina
Hispanic Public Relations Director of Latino Public
Relations-LLC of Michigan.
Before moving to the United States I lived in Bogotá- Colombia
for most of my life. Our family was sent to Washington DC when I
was sixteen. My father was in the military and worked as a
diplomat to Colombian Embassy in DC. I went to school and
taught myself English in the process of the year we spent here in
the US.
Upon returning home I completed high school and then began to
focus on molding a career. I decided to enrol in the University of
La Sabana, a worldwide accredited University founded by the
Opus Dei of Spain. This is a European university, it is known
worldwide for its status as a starting point for any position related
in communications. In the United States it might be compared to
an Ivy League University. I obtained a bachelors degree in
Social Communication and Journalism.
I started off working as a reporter in Bogotá, Colombia for a Canadian television channel named
CityTV. I reported on many of the stories associated with human drama, or tragedy. But I wanted
to expand on my career, and not settle on the single field of reporting. I wanted more control over
my own content, over what was being said to the public.
I continued working in Bogotá, which people in the United States often believe to be around a
million people. In fact it's closer to thirteen times the size of Detroit. It’s also the Nations financial
and political capital. I decided the time had come to move on and I decided on an independent
station, working directly with a producer. I helped to create a show named ‘Que nota’. The show
was focused on teenagers, and ran for around three years. I wasn’t satisfied with the position in
the company, and creative proposals had fallen on deaf ears.
I decided to try my hand in the political arena. For about 2 years I worked for a Senator and two
congressmen. This was the beginning of me performing what could be called text book public
relations. I began to contact media and organize major events. Later; I would build these events,
run them through their entirety in nearly every respect. I needed all the expertise that I had
accumulated as a reporter and production assistant to perform this task. The culmination of this
process came to fruition in an international event that I personally helped to organize, coordinate,
and complete through all cycles of the process. Throughout my tenure working in the Congress
my task was to illuminate these political figures in the public's eyes.
I moved to the United States and quickly began working my way to find a new career. I started as
a freelance employee through one of the largest multicultural agencies in the States. Once my
contract had expired the company created a permanent position for me. A position that they
created only after using the skill set that I provided. They came to realize the power of a Hispanic
Public Relations specialist in the firm.
In July of 2006, I executed the “Destapa el Verano” campaign for Corona. Throughout 2007 I
organized and executed the Hispanic media outreach for the IRS with the EITC National
Awareness Day Campaign and Satellite Media Tour, and many other campaigns.
However, my goal was not to simply work for another company, but create my own. After leaving I
decided that it was the time to fulfill this dream. I would work at bridging gaps, to expand on the
base that small companies would use, bring them together to form a more powerful union. I don’t
feel that I’m part of a faceless company, but part of an expanding partnership between
communities. My goal is to bring those communities and cultures together.

Latino Public Relations Founder
My wife is the head of our United States division. She honed her talents working as a reporter
and PR agent in the Colombian government before we married. She isn't the only person in her
family to go into journalism though. Her sister (Carolina Ospina), brother (Carlos Ospina), brother
in law (Richard Freddy Munoz), uncle (Raul Ospina), and her cousin (Clara Ospina) are all
journalists. Most with accolades and awards to show for it. With all the talent available its only
natural that we started a business in public relations.
However, I'm not a journalist, or a PR representative, I'll leave that to the professionals. I'm an
engineer, and the founder of Latino Public Relations. I've lived in South America, Asia, Europe,
and many places within the United States. I've been fortunate enough to come to understand
other cultures, and see how barriers can be erected or torn down, with a lack of, or improvement
of communications.
Both my wife and I dreamed of starting our own company. When we looked around the
community we live in, we saw separate communities working in the same local, but rarely together
when it included professional relationships. It was like two worlds of people excluding each other.
Both of us saw that the community needed a bridge so that these two worlds could communicate
more effectively. We decided to build that bridge by creating Latino Public Relations LLC.

Thank you for allowing the individuals of LPR to
introduce themselves and why they feel they offer an
excellent competitive edge over our competition.
We can do this because we are a family owned
business, not a large company with a lot of
overhead. Accountability isn't a far off term. Each
person within our team knows what they have to do,
they've done it for years for other companies. Our
company's structure is set the way it is because of
the expertise each family member possesses.
